SIA UNMASKS IN KENZO
There isn’t a day that goes by without a celebrity sighting at Los Angeles International Airport, but yesterday provided a special moment thanks to the appearance of Australian hitmaker Sia. Gliding through LAX in beige Kenzo sweatpants, a matching cropped sweatshirt, and an oversize pink tote, the star provided photographers with a chic athleisure moment perfect for the 15-hour flight to the Emirates, where she’s set to headline the Dubai World Cup. Jet-setting style aside, the most notable element of Sia’s ensemble may have been what was missing. Gone were the geometric wigs and oversize hats that have come to define her public persona. Beauty accents were limited to an understated, center-parted hairstyle and a glossy peach lip.
So much of being a pop star these days hinges on developing a signature, but when wild costumes take center stage, it can be difficult to see the person behind the performances. No one understands this better than Sia, who has used her elaborate face coverings to stand out from her peers and maintain a level of privacy. Adopting the look back in 2014 while promoting her album 1000 Forms of Fear, the wigs and hats have become so recognizable that her dancer doppelgänger, Maddie Ziegler, regularly wears them to stand in for the singer in music videos.
The casual cool of Sia’s Kenzo pieces shows that beneath the costumes, she has great personal style. With a new album rumored for release at the end of the year and artists constantly evolving their look, 2017 could be the year Sia stops being shy about showing it.
