IT'S A FENTY WORLD: RIHANNA CLOSE NYFW
Rihanna Fashion Week continued well into the evening on Sunday at the Park Avenue Armory on the Upper East Side. The Bad Gal presented her Fenty x Puma collection against a backdrop of pink sandy hills and the humming of motocross riders flinging themselves into the air. The singer has now taken her show from the Paris Library to a makeshift New York motocross course, and becoming the can’t-miss show each season.
The line’s inspiration seemed to range from So-Cal surfers to motocross riders, with a mix of everything from neoprene bodysuits to loose training pants modeled by Kaia Gerber, Slick Woods, Joan Smalls, Adriana Lima, and more of the buzziest names in fashion. The front row was a mix of familiar faces including Whoopi Goldberg, Big Sean, and Ashley Graham (Rihanna’s rumored ex-boyfriend Leonardo DiCaprio snuck his way into the after-party). Even Diplo, the D.J. whose music Rihanna once said sounded like “a reggae song at an airport,” scored an invite and made an appearance at the show.
The models prepped backstage using makeup by, what else, Fenty Beauty, the cosmetics line, which includes a groundbreaking 40 shades of foundation, Rihanna launched earlier in Fashion Week. The singer nabbed headlines at its launch party on Thursday in a custom yellow look by Oscar de la Renta, because why overshadow the Fenty Beauty venture with the Fenty clothing line?
Rihanna closed out Sunday’s show by riding on the back of one of the many motorbikes, wearing her own designs and blowing kisses to the crowd. If the world didn’t know any better, a farewell kiss from Rihanna could easily be mistaken for the grand finale for all of fashion week. But somehow New York Fashion Week will continue on, even if admitting that riding a motocross bike with Rihanna is truly as good as it gets.
