MY DRENNA LUNA

I think that the greatest gift for someone who loves fashion is to find a designer who understands their style to a ‘T’. I love that I have found that gift in my very own Jamaican designers. One of my favourites is the sister team of ‘Drenna Luna’. Maybe it’s because our roots are both entrenched in Montego Bay that we click so well, but our relationship is one that is based on a genuine love for edgy style with an easy-to-wear fit.

Arlene Martin and Angelie Spencer named their fashion design company after their maternal grandmothers, and fittingly, ‘Drenna Luna’ truly embodies the perfect mix of old fashioned stateliness, with a youthful pomp of edginess. The best thing is, like an old married couple, we finish each other’s fashion sentences. They need only look at a piece of cloth and can immediately visualize the perfect outfit to accentuate the fall of the fabric on my body type. And if they don’t have the fabric, they will begin a scavenger hunt of no mean order to find the print that I described.

The great thing about Drenna Luna’s love for fashion is that their eyes do not fall short of the clothing they make. I have left their doors many a time armed with evening bag, necklace, bracelet and ring that perfectly match the hue of blue in my dress. Hello!!....they even commissioned sandals of every fathomable colour, made right here in Jamaica, to go with their clothing line.

Situated in a breezy old house on Devon Road, the high ceilings and wooden floors are reminiscent of our Jamaican heritage. I warn you though, the warm nature of Arlene and Angelie call for lots of chatting and catching up, but then…it is through this friendship that you create the very personal bond that allows your style to be well interpreted. That, my friend, is a special gift.
